Covey, TCRC, and COVID
Both the staff and children of Thomasville Community Resource Center (TCRC) as well as the Covey Film Festival want to thank all of our followers, fans and donors for your support in our first seven years of the the Covey Film Festival—we could not offer a festival without your support. We need your support even more as we enter our eighth year.
Despite the pandemic, TCRC continues to fulfill its mission to empower children to progress toward their full potential through educational development and partnerships. Parents should try to keep their children at home. However, this is not always possible. Alternate care arrangements are particularly important for our medical workers, first responders, food service workers, grocery store workers and others serving vital and essential functions during this public health emergency. TCRC implemented an Emergency Plan that places the health and safety of children, families and employees first. We provide protective personal equipment to all staff and children as well as ensure social distancing in all programs. The following services are being provided
- Summer program provides services to students from 7:30am – 5:30pm
- Early literacy services provided at home for 2 and 3 year olds
- Weekly food distribution to 75+ families
- We are enrolling students for our community-based and school-based after school programs to begin in August
As you know, the mission of the Covey Film Festival, the fundraising arm of TCRC, is to educate, entertain and engage through the vehicle of film and film-making. In past years we have been able to offer the community to see both independent films, film openings, meeting with professionals in the film industry and opportunities to discuss the issues raised in films. We will do this going into our eighth season but the pandemic will require us to do so virtually at least through the fall.
We have worked to obtain a screening platform which will allow us to offer streaming of films to our supporters without charge during the fall and winter. While we will miss being with you in person we feel we have an obligation to abide by current health precautions. We hope that as the precautions lesson we will be able to once again meet in person.
All of our screenings that are online will be free to viewers as our gift to the community for your support.
We are also planning interactive opportunities on-line which will allow our virtual audiences to hear from professional actors and film-makers.
We hope to be able to begin offering virtual screenings by the first of September.
